Jules Angst, a Swiss psychiatrist and academic, died on May 15, 2026, at the age of 99.

Born in Zurich on December 11, 1926, he completed his medical and psychiatric training there under Professor Manfred Bleuler. Angst served as Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Zurich Medical School from 1969 to 1994 and headed the Research Department of Zurich University Psychiatric Hospital, the Burghölzli.

He continued his epidemiological and clinical research at the University of Zurich after leaving his chair and has been President of the European Bipolar Forum since 2003. He was also emeritus professor of psychiatry at Zurich University and an honorary doctor of Heidelberg University.
