McCusker, an American economist and economic historian, died on September 24, 2026, aged 87. A native of upstate New York, he did graduate work at the University of Rochester, University College London and the University of Pittsburgh, where he completed his doctorate in 1970.
McCusker spent 24 years on the faculty of the University of Maryland, College Park before moving to Trinity University in San Antonio in 1992, where he served as the Ewing Halsell Distinguished Professor of American History and professor of economics until his retirement in 2015. His teaching included courses in United States history, economic and business history, and the history of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century British America.
