John Blanche, the British fantasy and science fiction illustrator whose work helped define White Dwarf and Warhammer 40,000, died on June 3, 2026.
He was 77. Blanche, born in 1948, also worked as a modeller and illustrator for Games Workshop, contributing to Warhammer Fantasy Battle, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and Warhammer Age of Sigmar, as well as various game books and Fighting Fantasy publications.
He served as art director for the company and was widely associated with the visual style of its fantasy and science fiction worlds.
