Born Joseph Doering on April 16, 1982, in Chicago, Illinois, he trained at the Can-Am Wrestling School and TNA Wrestling School in 2004 before beginning his career in Border City Wrestling. He later wrestled in Puerto Rico under the ring name Hans von Doering and went on to become most closely associated with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, where he was a member of Violent By Design.
Doering was a two-time Impact World Tag Team Champion, sharing the title with Eric Young and Deaner under the Freebird rule.
