He was a professor of the humanities and taught at Jagiellonian University, where he also studied history and later built his career. Stolicki graduated from the Institute of History at Jagiellonian University in 1987.
He went on to earn a doctorate in 1992 for a thesis on Podolian exiles in the political life of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, supervised by Kazimierz Przyboś. He received his habilitation in 2008 and the title of professor in 2025.
