Januário Machaze Nhangumbe, a Mozambican Roman Catholic prelate and bishop of Pemba, died on August 23, 2026, aged 92.

He was born in Panda, in what was then Portuguese Mozambique, on August 20, 1934, and was ordained a priest in 1962. Nhangumbe was appointed Bishop of Porto Amélia in January 1975 and consecrated that March; when the diocese was renamed Pemba in September 1976, he continued as its bishop until resigning in November 1993, after which he became bishop emeritus.

He died in Maputo following an illness.
