Jakub Schwarz Trojan, a Czech theologian and dean of the Evangelical Theological Faculty of Charles University, died in Prague on October 7, 2026, aged 99.

Born in Paris on May 13, 1927, to Czech parents who were there temporarily, he moved with his family to Czechoslovakia in 1929 and spent his school years in Bohemia. He attended primary school in Prague’s Vinohrady district, then studied at the gymnasium on Slovenská Street in the same neighborhood, graduating in 1946.

Ladislav Hejdánek was among his classmates. Trojan’s bibliography included books and articles in specialist journals devoted to philosophy and theology. Anthropology and social ethics were the principal fields of his work, with particular attention to questions of power and civic responsibility. His academic and cultural roles included service as an honorary member of Charles University’s Scientific Council, membership on the council of the Academic YMCA association, and a place on the editorial board of the Prague publisher OIKOYMENH. These appointments brought him into university governance, association work and publishing alongside his scholarly writing. His biography thus records both a childhood education in Prague and later responsibilities at the university and in the city’s intellectual institutions, as well as a body of work addressing ethical and social questions.
