More about Jacques Proulx
Born: April 28, 1939.
Jacques Proulx, a Canadian trade unionist and president of the Union des producteurs agricoles from 1981 to 1993, died October 9, 2026, aged 87.
Born in Saint-Camille, Quebec, on April 28, 1939, he held successive presidencies in agricultural and rural organizations in the province. His first was at the Syndicat des producteurs agricoles de l’Estrie, the Estrie Agricultural Producers’ Union, where he served from 1976 to 1981.
He then led the Union des producteurs agricoles, or Union of Agricultural Producers, for 12 years. That role placed him at the head of a province-wide agricultural union after his earlier work with the regional organization. In 1993, Proulx became president of Solidarité rurale du Québec, or Rural Solidarity of Quebec. He held the post through 2008, following his 12-year tenure at the Union des producteurs agricoles. His presidencies spanned three organizations and more than three decades, from the regional agricultural union in Estrie to the province-wide producers’ union and, later, a rural organization. The sequence of roles traces his leadership from agricultural producers’ organizations to rural solidarity work in Quebec.
