At the 1964 Summer Olympics, Cornelisse won a bronze medal in the four-kilometre team pursuit, sharing the result with Cor Schuuring, Gerard Koel and Jaap Oudkerk. The medal came in a team event, with Cornelisse among four riders representing the Netherlands. His road-racing victories included the Ronde van Noord-Holland and Ronde van Overijssel, both won in 1962. Two years later, he also took a stage of the Olympia’s Tour.
