Atlantic Fleet, died on July 31, 2026, aged 98. Born in Washington, D.C., Train entered the United States Naval Academy in 1945 and graduated in 1949. His operational commands included the attack submarine USS Barbel, the guided missile destroyer USS Conyngham, Cruiser-Destroyer Flotilla 8 and the John F. Kennedy Battle Group. He led the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean from 1976 to 1978 and the Atlantic Fleet from 1978 to 1982. In later years, he served as a Senior Fellow at the Joint Advanced Warfighting School at the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia.
