Harry Burrows, the English footballer who played for Aston Villa, Stoke City and Plymouth Argyle, died on September 9, 2026, aged 85.

Born in Haydock on March 17, 1941, he broke through with Aston Villa after turning down interest from several leading clubs as a youngster and signing part-time in 1958. He made his senior debut in the 1959-60 season, helped Villa win the Second Division title and scored in the final of the inaugural League Cup in 1961 when they beat Rotherham United 3-2.

Burrows also won an England Under-23 cap against Greece and finished as Villa’s top scorer in both 1961-62 and 1962-63.
