Gordon Johncock, the American racing driver and two-time Indianapolis 500 winner, died on September 28, 2026, at age 90.
Born in Hastings, Michigan, Johncock became one of the best-known figures in American open-wheel racing, winning the Indianapolis 500 in 1973 and 1982. He also captured the 1976 USAC Championship Car title and built much of his career in the USAC and CART ranks after starting on Michigan tracks, including the Old Hastings Raceway and Berlin Raceway.
Johncock began his top-level career in 1964 with Weinberger Racing and later formed his own Johncock Racing team.
