A native of Alliance, Ohio, he was born George Frederick Hoaglin on January 28, 1944, and graduated from East Palestine High School before attending the University of Pittsburgh. Hoaglin was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 1966 and played center in the NFL from 1966 to 1976.
He later coached for the New York Giants and the New England Patriots.
