Ernie Cunliffe dead at age 88, American Olympic runner

Ernie Cunliffe, an American Olympic runner and middle-distance athlete, died on June 6, 2026, at age 88.

Born in Long Beach, California, on September 2, 1937, he competed in the men’s 800 metres at the 1960 Summer Olympics. Cunliffe also ran for Stanford University, finishing third in the 800 metres at both the 1959 and 1960 NCAA Track and Field Championships.
