Erni Mangold, the Austrian actress and stage director known for roles in films and television including Before Sunrise, Therapy for a Vampire and The Forester of the Silver Wood, died on September 5, 2026, aged 99.
Born Ernestine Goldmann on January 26, 1927, in Grossweikersdorf, Austria, she built a career that spanned stage, screen and television, appearing in more than 75 productions from 1948 onward. After training at Helmut Kraus’s drama school, she performed at Vienna’s Theater in der Josefstadt, later worked for Gustaf Gründgens at Hamburg’s Deutsches Schauspielhaus and at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus under Karl Heinz Stroux.
From 1972 she taught and worked at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, and she was also associated with the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
