Elena Baranová, a Slovak linguist and philologist, died on July 14, 2026.
Born on October 12, 1945, in Martin, then part of Czechoslovakia, she focused much of her scholarly work on the French language. Her doctoral thesis examined the subjunctive tense, and she later took part in the Intercultural Studies for Teachers Education to Promote European Citizenship.
Baranová also delivered lectures on the Slovak language at the University of Rennes. She died in Banská Bystrica at the age of 80.
