Dudley Laufman, an American contra dance caller and musician who helped spur the 20th-century revival of contra dancing, died on July 13, 2026.
He was 95. Born in Newton, Massachusetts, on February 7, 1931, he grew up in Arlington and attended his first dance as a boy while working at Mistwold Farm in Fremont, New Hampshire, in 1948.
In 1959, he moved to Canterbury, New Hampshire, and later became a founding member of the Canterbury Country Dance Orchestra in 1965.
