Danny Mixon, an American jazz pianist, died on May 1, 2026, of prostate cancer.
He was 76. Born Daniel Asbury Mixon in Harlem, New York City, on August 19, 1949, he performed in mainstream jazz, hard bop and post-bop.
Mixon first worked as a tap dancer before switching to the piano after being inspired by jazz performances at the Apollo. He gained attention in the 1970s and continued to record and perform in New York and abroad.
