Born Cronwell Jorge Jara Jiménez in Piura on July 26, 1949, he became known as a poet, storyteller, playwright, screenwriter and literary workshop leader, with short fiction the genre for which he was best known. His work also included novels, film scripts and writings on narrative technique.
Jara studied at the National University of San Marcos and later taught at the University of Lima. He received the Premio Copé and the Premio Casa de la Literatura Peruana.
