Conceição Lima, a São Toméan poet known for A Dolorosa Raiz do Micondó, died on May 15, 2026, at the age of 64.
Born Maria da Conceição de Deus Lima on December 8, 1961, in Santana, São Tomé, she studied journalism in Portugal and worked in radio, television and the print press in São Tomé and Príncipe. In 1993, she founded the weekly independent publication O País Hoje, which she directed and wrote.
Lima was among the few poets to come of age after her country’s independence in 1975.
