Hamm, an American Air Force general and superintendent of the Air Force Academy, died on July 23, 2026, aged 92. A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Hamm was a United States Air Force lieutenant general who served as the academy’s 11th superintendent in Colorado Springs.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from the United States Military Academy in 1956 and later received a master’s degree in political science from Auburn University in 1969. Hamm also completed Air Command and Staff College and the National War College, and pursued pilot training before serving assignments in Europe, including tours in France and West Germany.
