Also known as Cameron Wilson Bell and Cam Bell, he was part of the Bell rugby league family, which included George, Ian, his son Dean, and Cathy and Clayton Friend. Bell coached the Manukau Magpies and in 1985 won the Hyland Memorial Cup as Auckland Rugby League’s coach of the year.
He later served as Auckland coach for two seasons after his appointment in 1988, and between February 1990 and April 1994 he coached Carlisle in England.
