Bernard Haisch, the German-born American astrophysicist who died on September 3, 2026, at age 77 from complications of Parkinson’s disease, studied solar-stellar astrophysics, quantum electrodynamics, observational X-ray and ultraviolet astronomy, and stochastic electrodynamics.
Born in Stuttgart, Germany, he earned a doctorate in astronomy from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1975 and went on to postdoctoral work at the Joint Institute for Laboratory Astrophysics at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Haisch later worked at institutions including Lockheed Martin, the University of California, Berkeley, the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics and Utrecht University, and in 2002 became chief science officer of ManyOne Networks.
