Bede Liu, a Taiwanese–American electrical engineer and professor emeritus at Princeton University, died on May 7, 2026.
He was 91. Born in Shanghai, China, in 1934, he earned a B.S.
in electrical engineering from National Taiwan University in 1954, followed by a Master of Engineering and a Ph.D. from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1956 and 1960, respectively. Liu received the IEEE Fourier Award for Signal Processing and was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2002 for contributions to the analysis and implementation of digital signal processing algorithms. He was elected to Academia Sinica in 2006 and held a number of patents.
