Also known as Ange Lou Armato, she was born in Rockford, Illinois, on October 27, 1929, and grew up in a large Italian family as one of eight children. Armato first set her sights on art, but after attending her first baseball game, she turned her attention to the sport and practiced with the Rockford Peaches for three years while studying in Chicago.
She later returned to the league in 1953 with the Kalamazoo Lassies, playing second base with sure hands and finishing the season with two hits in 26 at-bats.
