Lysko won a seat in the Sejm in the 2005 election, taking 6,581 votes in the 31 Katowice district as a candidate on the Law and Justice list.
He was also known for his work as a Silesian activist and for books including To byli nasi ojcowie, in which he gathered family narratives about Silesian men forced into the Wehrmacht during World War II.
