Aimable Karasira, a Rwandan academic, singer, YouTuber and political activist, died on May 6, 2026, of a drug overdose.
Karasira was an ethnic Tutsi whose parents were killed in the Rwandan genocide in 1994. He said he blamed forces of the Rwandan Patriotic Front for their deaths.
Karasira gained prominence for videos on his YouTube channel, Ukuri Mbona (“The Truth As I See It”), which criticized the ruling Rwandan Patriotic Front and the Rwandan government. He also appeared as a guest on other YouTube channels and had more than 60,000 followers.
