Agnes Herzberg, a Canadian statistician and professor of mathematics and statistics at Queen’s University, died on June 2, 2026.

She was 87. Born Agnes Margaret Herzberg in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, in 1938, she studied at Queen’s before earning her master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Saskatchewan under Norman Shklov.

She later received an Overseas Fellowship in 1966 and remained at Imperial College London until 1988, when she returned to Queen’s. Herzberg served as president of the Statistical Society of Canada from 1991 to 1992, becoming the society’s first female president, and received its Distinguished Service Award in 1999.
