He played college football for the Eastern Kentucky Colonels from 1964 to 1967, lining up as a tailback in his first two seasons and as a wide receiver in his final two. Marsh earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors in 1966 and 1967 and was named a second-team Little All-American as a senior. He was selected by the Patriots in the third round of the 1968 NFL/AFL draft and went on to play professionally in the American Football League.
