Born in Montreal and a graduate of the École de musique Vincent-d’Indy, he began his career in the 1960s with the folk vocal quartet Les Cailloux, which he helped direct in its early years. He went on to become active in the 1970s and 1980s as a composer, arranger and producer for a wide range of Canadian musicians.
His best-known songs included Get That Ball, Tout va trop vite, Le Désamour and Moi, de la tête aux pieds. Lapierre also wrote music for Canadian Broadcasting Corporation television dramas, including Guy Fournier’s Jamais deux sans toi and L’Or et le papier, as well as Lise Payette’s La Bonne aventure.
