Born on July 25, 1919, he grew up in Poland and, according to the Hebrew account, moved with his family to Łódź when he was 14. During the Nazi occupation, the family continued operating a sewing workshop after the creation of the Łódź ghetto in 1940, making collars for dresses that were sent to Nazi Germany and employing several dozen Jews in forced labor.
In August 1944, the family was deported to Auschwitz; his parents and several siblings were killed, while Vidovsky and his brother Yehoshua survived selection by Dr. Josef Mengele and were sent to labor camps. He later made his life in Israel.
