
Walter Martínez, a Venezuelan journalist with Venezolana de Televisión, died on January 22, 2026, at the age of 84.
Born Walter Nelson Martínez Martínez in Montevideo, Uruguay, he had a career spanning more than three decades in radio, television and the press. He was best known for his work in international relations and for hosting and producing the nightly program Dossier on state television.
Martínez was also a war correspondent during the 1980s and 1990s, and he later hosted a radio version of Dossier on Radio Nacional de Venezuela. He was known for wearing a patch over his right eye following a home plumbing accident.
