Walt McKee, a Northern Irish-born Canadian football player who was 77, died on July 18, 2026.

He played in the Canadian Football League from 1972 to 1975 as a kicker, helping Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Edmonton Eskimos. A University of Manitoba graduate, McKee was part of the Bisons’ 1969 and 1970 championship teams before joining Winnipeg in 1972.

His rookie season in the West brought the Dr. Beattie Martin Trophy, after he led the team with 108 punts for a 41.5-yard average. He finished second in league punting average in each of the next two seasons, with marks of 44.2 and 41.8 yards, and also handled place-kicking and kickoffs.
