Born in Ostrava on August 14, 1931, she began attending Mistr Gabzdyl’s ballet studio at 15 after pressing to pursue dance. She later trained in Prague and joined the State Theatre Ostrava as a trainee, where she was guided early on by her first ballet teacher and the company’s ballet chief, Emerich Gabzdyl.
Pavelcová became noted for lyrical interpretations of tragic and dramatic heroines, performing roles including Svanilda in Coppélia, Sulamit in The Legend of Joseph, Catherine and the Lady of the Copper Mountain in The Mad Rocking-Horse, the Girl in The Miraculous Mandarin, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, Desdemona in Othello and Zarema in The Fountain of Bakhchisarai.
