Born in Prague, he studied chemical engineering at a branch of the University of Chemistry and Technology in Pardubice and graduated in 1954. He later worked in technical and information roles before joining the Institute of Scientific, Technical and Economic Information in 1967.
Páral began publishing in 1962, contributed to the Brno daily Průboj under the pen name Jan Laban, and turned to novels five years later. His writing ranged from biting satire to works of Socialist Realism, and he also served as an editor at Severočeském nakladatelství from 1972.
