Vladimir Gogoladze, the Georgian gymnast who represented the Soviet Union at the 1988 Olympic Games, died on October 4, 2026, aged 60.
Born in Tbilisi on August 18, 1966, he competed internationally under the name Vladimer Omarovich “Lado” Gogoladze and emerged at elite level in 1985. That year he won silver medals in the all-around and high bar at the USSR Championships and bronze medals in the all-around and parallel bars at the European Championships.
He was part of the Soviet team that captured Olympic gold in Seoul and was noted for becoming the first gymnast to perform a triple back on floor in the Olympics. In 1988, he received the title Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR.
