Born in 1956 in Tokyo and known professionally as Tohjiro or TOHJIRO, he began as an independent film director before moving into adult video production. Working under his birth name, Chishō Itō, he wrote and directed Gondola, released theatrically in 1987, and the film won him the Best New Director award at the 1988 Yokohama Film Festival.
