Thomas Handgrätinger, a German priest and Catholic monk, died on July 24, 2026, at Kloster Windberg.
Born in Ulm on March 4, 1943, he entered the Windberg monastery in 1963, took his solemn vows in 1965, and was ordained a priest in Regensburg in 1969 after studying theology in Innsbruck. He later served the Premonstratensian community in Windberg in several leadership roles, including as abbot from 1994 and as abbot general of the Premonstratensians from 2003 to 2018.
Handgrätinger was also recognized with the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
