Tamati Reedy

Tamati Reedy, a New Zealand Māori academic, rugby union player and public servant, died on May 22, 2026, aged 89.

Born Tamati Muturangi Reedy on July 16, 1936, in Ruatoria, he played rugby for East Coast, Thames Valley and the Māori All Blacks. He later served as secretary of the Department of Maori Affairs from 1983 to 1989.

In 1996, he was the foundation dean and professor of the School of Māori and Pacific Development at the University of Waikato.
