Takao Jinnouchi, a Japanese politician and former bureaucrat, died on September 8, 2026, aged 93.
A member of the Liberal Democratic Party, he served in Japan’s Upper House for three terms and held the post of parliamentary vice minister for agriculture, forestry and fisheries. Jinnouchi worked in the construction ministry before entering politics and was aligned with party factions led by Keizo Obuchi and later Ryutaro Hashimoto.
He was appointed justice minister in 1999 under Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi, succeeding Shozaburo Nakamura, and left the post later that year when Hideo Usui replaced him.
