Subhash C.
Kashyap, the Indian political scientist who served as secretary-general of Lok Sabha from 1984 to 1990, died on June 4, 2026, at the age of 97. Born on May 10, 1929, in Chandpur, he was widely regarded as an expert on the Indian Constitution and constitutional law.
Kashyap studied at the University of Allahabad and spent more than three decades associated with the Parliament of India after joining the Parliament Secretariat in 1953. He served as secretary-general of the 7th, 8th and 9th Lok Sabha before taking voluntary retirement in 1990. Also known as Dr. Subhash C. Kashyap, he was recognized with the Padma Bhushan and the Jawarharlal Nehru Fellowship.
