Stephen Pedley, the British Anglican prelate who served as Bishop of Lancaster, died on July 1, 2026, aged 85.

Known as Geoffrey Stephen Pedley, he was born on September 13, 1940 and was educated at Marlborough College, Queens’ College, Cambridge and Ripon College Cuddesdon. Ordained in 1966, he began his ministry with curacies in Liverpool and Coventry, spent time serving in Zambia, and later became Vicar of St Peter’s, Stockton-on-Tees and then Whickham.

Before his elevation to the episcopate in 1998, he was a Residentiary Canon at Durham Cathedral, and he remained Bishop suffragan of Lancaster until 2005.
