Stanisław Gomułka, a Polish economist and academic, died on July 18, 2026.

Born on September 10, 1940, in Krężoły in what is now the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, he studied at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw before building a career in economics. From 1970 to 2005, he served as a reader in economics at the London School of Economics, while also taking visiting posts or research appointments at the University of Pennsylvania, Stanford, Columbia, Harvard, Aarhus University, the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Studies and the Central European University.

Between 1989 and 2002, he advised the Ministry of Finance and the National Bank of Poland, and in 2013 he became a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He was awarded the Order of Polonia Restituta in 2014.
