Souleymane Diallo dead at age 80, founder of Le Lynx

Souleymane Diallo, a Guinean journalist and founder of the satirical newspaper Le Lynx, died on June 1, 2026, at the age of 80–81.

Born in 1945, he helped establish the paper in 1992 after leaving Guinea for Ivory Coast, shaping it on the model of Le Canard enchaîné. Diallo was later jailed in 1995 over an article about the Miss Guinea ECOWAS pageant and again in 1996 in connection with the 1996 Guinean coup attempt.

He died in Canada.
