Richard Gill, the Australian conductor and music educator, died on October 28, 2018, at the age of 76.
Born in Eastwood on November 4, 1941, he studied at Marist College Eastwood and later at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Gill worked as a conductor, music director, choir director and educator, and was known for leading choral, orchestral and operatic works as well as for his advocacy of music education for children.
Before becoming a professional conductor, he taught music at Marsden High School in West Ryde. He was the founding conductor of the Strathfield Symphony Orchestra in Sydney in 1969 and later studied at the Orff Institute of the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
