Raymonde Dien, a French political activist, died on August 20, 2022, aged 93.
Born Raymonde Huberdeau on May 13, 1929, in Mansigné, she was known as a French communist activist and for her role in a 1950 protest against the Indochina War. On February 23, 1950, she joined an improvised demonstration at the Saint-Pierre-des-Corps rail station near Tours, where several hundred supporters of the French Communist Party tried to block a military train carrying armored vehicles bound for Indochina.
Dien was the only demonstrator prosecuted and was imprisoned for ten months, first in Tours and later at the Fort of Hâ in Bordeaux.
