Randy Burns, the American folk singer, songwriter and guitarist, died on August 8, 2026, aged 78.

Known professionally as Randall R. Burns and also associated with the Sky Dog Band, he recorded several albums in the 1960s and early 1970s, when he was performing with the group.

Burns grew up in New Haven, Connecticut, and began singing in the city’s coffee houses at 17. In 1966, he moved to Greenwich Village, where he busked before becoming a regular opening act at the Gaslight Cafe and later appeared at venues including Gerdes Folk City and The Bitter End. He also fronted the band The Morning and later formed the psychedelic Sky Dog Band in New York, with whom he recorded his 1968 album Evening of the Magician.
