Puviarasu, an Indian poet and translator, died on June 30, 2026, at the age of 96.

Born in 1930 in a village near Udumalpet, he was born S. Jagannathan and later adopted Puviarasu, the Tamil rendering of his birth name.

He moved with his family to Coimbatore, where he studied at Government Arts College and later earned a Tamil Vidwan degree from Perur Tamil College. He went on to work as a Tamil teacher for more than three decades, while also building a career as a writer, linguist and translator. He received the Sahitya Akademi Award.
