Phil Lyne, an American rodeo cowboy who won multiple world championships in the Rodeo Cowboys Association and Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, died on August 14, 2026, aged 79.
Born in San Antonio, Texas, on January 18, 1947, he was named the RCA Rookie of the Year in 1969. Lyne captured the all-around cowboy and tie-down roping world championships at the National Finals Rodeo in 1971, then repeated as all-around champion and added another tie-down roping title in 1972.
He later won his only steer roping world championship at the National Finals Steer Roping in 1990. Lyne was also a graduate of Sam Houston State University and was inducted into the National Rodeo Hall of Fame.
