Peter R.
Moody Jr., an American political scientist and sinologist, died on May 2, 2026, at age 82. He was a professor emeritus of political science at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
Moody was an expert on modern Chinese politics, Asian international affairs, Chinese political thought, international relations theory, and party theory. Born in San Francisco on October 13, 1943, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University in 1965 and went on to receive a master’s degree and doctorate from Yale University.
